Obituary of Elsie M. Gladle
CARTHAGE – Elsie M. Gladle, 88, of Parham St., died early Thursday morning, May 17, 2018 at home, under the loving care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County.
Elsie was born on February 13, 1930 in the Town of Diana in Lewis County, the daughter of the late James and Hazel Adner Snider on the Aldrich Settlement Road. She graduated from West Carthage High School in 1947. She married Duncan Allen Gladle in 1948 at the United Methodist Church in Natural Bridge. Mr. Gladle died in 2004.
On May 1, 1981 they were sealed in the Washington DC Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for all time and eternity. She worked at the old A&P Store in Carthage, NY. She was a self-employed Avon Representative for 54 years, still selling at the time of her most recent illness. She was an Avon Honor Society Member, Member of President’s Club; she won the “Spirit of Avon” award in her District in 2007-2008 & 2011-2012. She was a member of the TOPS (Take off Pounds Sensibly) #0674 for 30 years. She was an inspector of election machines for many years.
She was active in the Ladies Republican Club when it was an active club. She was in the Girl Scouts for many years as a leader for her daughters. She was a committee person for a troop lead by her oldest daughter Gail, of which her granddaughter Brittney was a member. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving in various positions. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy!
She is survived by three daughters; Gail (the late Thomas) Taylor; Dawn (Robert) Roll; and Kathy (Jay) Buckley all of Carthage; and several grandchildren, Brittney Taylor, Watertown; Adam Roll, Maine; Aaron Roll, Ohio; Benjamin Buckley, Carthage; Jayme Buckley, Carthage; and Laura (Larry) Dorr, Carthage; and also two great-grandchildren, Emma Buckley, CA; and Owen Dorr, Carthage; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband Duncan, her parents, James and Hazel Adner Snider and two brothers, James Harvey Snider and Almond Snider and a sister, Mae Raynor.
Calling Hours will be held on Monday, May 21, 2018 from 4-7pm at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc., located at 500 State Street in Carthage, NY 13619. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 11:00am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, located on the Cole Road in Carthage. Burial will follow in the Indian River Cemetery.
