Obituary of Michael J. Burke Sr.

CARTHAGE – Michael J. Burke Sr., 68, died on Monday night, October 15, 2018 at Upstate Medical University, surrounded by his loving family.

Michael was born on April 13, 1950 in Watertown, NY, a son of the late Gordon and Dorothy Houghton Burke. He graduated from Carthage High School. Michael served in the United States Army from 1970 to 1971, during the Vietnam War. He worked various jobs, most recently at the Guthrie Clinic on Fort Drum as a laborer.

In 1992, he married Jennie Smith at Black River Baptist Church.

Michael is survived by his wife, Jennie; five sons, Michael Burke Jr., Carthage, NY; Marshall Burke, North Carolina; Patrick Burke, Virginia; Joshua Robinson, Missouri; Jess Burke, Carthage, NY; one daughter, Stacy Burke, Carthage, NY; four brothers, Thomas Burke, Rome, NY; Gene Burke, Champion, NY; Lynn Burke, Carthage, NY; John Burke; one sister, Anne Burge, Anchorage, AK; two granddaughters and 2 grandsons.

He is predeceased by a sister, Patricia Burke, and a brother, Gary Burke.

Michael loved caring for people; he visited people in various nursing homes. He had a true passion for ministry; he was a leader Long Falls Baptist Church

Callings hours will be held on Friday, October 19, 2018 from 4 – 6 PM at Long Falls Baptist Church, 35794 Rte. 126, Carthage, NY. A memorial service immediately will follow, at 6:00 PM.
