Obituary of Richard I. Crane
COPENHAGEN – Richard (Dick) I. Crane Jr., formerly of Rome, NY, passed away at home on Friday, November 30, 2018, under the care of his family and Lewis County Hospice.
Dick was born on December 9, 1942, in Carthage, NY, a son of the late Richard I. and Doris (Brenon) Crane Sr. He was the oldest of three children. Dick attended school at Squash Hole, Augustinian Academy and Carthage Central School, where he graduated. He went on to join the United States Air Force in October of 1961 and retired in October of 1981. During his service, he was stationed in various countries and served during the Vietnam War. He married Barbara Ann Pierce while being stationed in Hawaii. After retiring from the Air Force, he became Site Manager for communications at Northeast Air Defense Sector (NEADS). He then went on to work as the Head of Maintenance Technology at Rome Griffith Air Base, where he retired in 2003.
Dick married Barbara St. Louis on December 29, 2007 in Copenhagen, NY. Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting, and camping. He was a member of the Trenton Fish and Game, Carthage Rod and Gun Club, and the Northern Tier Trap League.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; three children, Kristin Moistner, Jacksonville, NC, Kelly (James Moore) Crane, Greece, NY, Kory (Myrna) Crane, Marcy, NY; three stepchildren, Kimberly Lobdell, Rochester, NY; Mathew (Julie) Stephenson, Pine City, NY, Tamie (Josh) Muncy, Copenhagen, NY; two brothers, Steven (Mary) Crane, Walkerton, IN, Kevin (Karen) Crane, Antioch, CA; seven grandchildren, Alyssa and Kyle Moistner, Mitchel and Jillian Stephenson, Teagan Lobdell, Eli and Ian Muncy.
Calling Hours will be held on Monday, December 3, 2018 from 12PM – 2PM at Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State Street, Carthage. A Funeral Service will follow at 2PM in the funeral home chapel with Father Robinson officiating. Burial with military honors will immediately follow the service in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Copenhagen, NY.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center at Elm and Carlton St, Buffalo, NY 14263.
