Obituary of Sterling W. Conant

CALCIUM – Sterling W. Conant, 80, Calcium passed away at his home on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 under the care of his loving family and Jefferson County Hospice.

Sterling was born on March 9, 1938 in Watertown, NY, a son to the late William C. and Arliuene A. (Shaw) Conant. Sterling graduated from Watertown High School, the class of 1955. He then went on to work at Kraft Foods in Lowville, where he retired after 25 years of dedicated service.

He was united in marriage with Angeline D. Shambo on October 5, 1957 at Saint Mary’s Church, Copenhagen with The Reverend Earl Nichols, officiating.

Sterling enjoyed crafts, wood-working, Syracuse Basketball and dirt track stock car racing. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Sterling is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Angeline, Calcium, NY; a daughter, RoseAnn Conant, Watertown, NY; a son, Todd (Kim) Conant, Hudson, Florida; two sisters, Sylvia Gilmartin, Watertown, NY; Gloria (Dale) Tiffany, Greensboro, NC. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Tony Diaz, Watertown, NY; Shawna (Dave) Gibeau, Carthage, NY; Stevie Gould, Croghan, NY; Marissa Conant, Salt Lake City, Utah; great-grandchildren, Cadence, McKayla and Jacob; several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his three infant daughters, Shawn, Pamela Sue and Paula Alice; and several brothers-in-law, Peter Gilmartin, Earl, Douglas, and Roger Shambo.

There will be no calling hours. A burial service will be held in the spring at the Brookside Cemetery in Watertown.

The Conant family would like to thank the Jefferson County Hospice Nurses and Volunteers for their compassion and special care shown to the family.
