Obituary of Delores M. Young
PITCAIRN – Delores Marie Young, 84, of Stone Road, passed away early Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Gouverneur Hospital surrounded by her family.
Delores was born on October 4, 1934 in Tupper Lake, NY, a daughter to the late Oliver Joseph and Bernest Clara (Dibble) LaFave. She attended Harrisville Central School and went on to work various jobs. She owned and operated the Doll Shop in Harrisville, she worked at Pleasant View Hotel in Harrisville for 10 years. She worked at Harrisville Paper Mill until it’s closing, she managed and cooked at the Harrisville Diner, and also worked 4 summers at Totem Camp under Operation S.U.S.I.E.. Delores worked in Food Service at Harrisville Central School for 26 years until her retirement in 1992.
On June 27, 1952, Delores married Ross N. Young at the Harrisville United Methodist Church.
Delores was a member of Adirondack Grange #530 for 40 years, in which she was a President for 16 years, a Fortnightly Club member, a Red Hat Society member, a N.Y.S. School Food Service Association member, a N.Y.S. Teacher’s Union member. She was a Director, Treasurer and Member of the Town of Diana Historical Museum. She was also a member of the Harrisville United Methodist Church, a member of Black River Valley Fiddlers, a Girl Scout Leader, a member of Harrisville Bonaparte Historical Association, and a member of United Methodist Women.
She enjoyed singing and playing the guitar, was an avid doll collector and loved to garden and read.
Delores is survived by her husband, Ross, her sisters, Janet (Richard) Ward; Patricia (Larry) Evans; Constance (late husband, Edward) Brown, all of Harrisville; her brothers, Robert (Sue) LaFave; Gary LaFave; Richard LaFave; Oliver (Bev) LaFave Jr.; Roger (Penny) LaFave, all of Harrisville; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She is predeceased by her sister, Gladys Young in 1996.
A graveside service will be held at 1PM Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Garrison Cemetery in Pitcairn, NY with the Rev. Canon Samuel P. Lundy officiating.
