WEST CARTHAGE- Barbara Ann Rahr Grau, 87, formerly of 17 Champion St., went on to meet the Lord on Friday, November 27, 2015 at the Country Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Carthage. She was born in Carthage on August 1, 1928, the daughter of Otto and Edith Simes Rahr. She graduated as Salutatorian of her class from West Carthage High School. She married Louis T. Grau in Carthage on May 4, 1947; he was the love of her life. Louis died suddenly at work on April 15, 1975. Barbara worked at Woolworth's prior to her marriage. After having children, she became a stay at home mom, eventually returning to work as a lunch monitor at the Carthage Central School. She in enjoyed the kids and took much pleasure in the number of them who remembered her and reached out to her over the years. Barbara was a life member of the United Community Church, Carthage; she served as an Elder, Trustee and Deacon. She was active in the choir, the Lay Life & Work Committee and taught Sunday School for many years. She was also a life member of the VFW Post #7227 Auxiliary and the American Legion Post #789 Ladies Auxiliary, where she also had served as Chaplain. She enjoyed snowmobiling and bowling with her husband; they had a camp on Pleasant Lake and enjoyed family summers there for many years. She was an active and willing volunteer in the community. She is survived by her two daughters; Rebecca Miller, Clayon, NY and Andrea Lynch and her husband, Jack, Carthage, her sons; Marty Grau and his wife Penny, West Carthage and Mark Grau and his wife, Becky, Carthage. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Besides her husband, Louis, she is predeceased by her parent and her siblings, Anna Marie Guyette, Terry Rahr and Roby Rahr. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at the United Community Church, Carthage, at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Jane Wagner, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Champion. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 30 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc., 500 State St., Carthage.
