DEXTER – Joseph Mitchell Babcock, 82, 226 William St., passed away on the evening of Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at the Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown. Born on March 2, 1934 in Carthage, the son of Michael & Florence Blanchard Babcock; he attended Carthage High School. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952, where he served two tours in Vietnam. He married Mary Worrall in Austin, Texas on November 5, 1967. He retired in June 1973. He then worked for Marine Midland Bank in Watertown from 1973 until his retirement in 1993. Joe was a lifelong member of the following Veterans organizations; the Smith-Savage American Legion Post #583, Dexter, the Barben-Jones Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1400, Watertown, the Disabled American Veterans, he was also a member of the F&AM Masonic Lodge #1072, Dexter. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary, a daughter and son-in-law, Joanne & Jay Stiles, Massena, three grandchildren; Jacob, Jordan and Jenna Stiles, Massena, two sisters; Mrs. Donna Davis, Carthage, and Ruth & Don Myers, Castorland, two brothers and their spouses; Michael and Willy Babcock, Florida, and Donald and Sharon Babcock, Idaho, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two brothers, his twin, John Babcock and Sherman Babcock, and two sisters, Rose Morgan and Christina Miles. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 in the Chapel of the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage, with the Rev. Canon Samuel P. Lundy, officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Carthage. Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday for two hours prior to the service, from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Online condolences may be made at www.lundyfuneralhome.com.
