Harrisville -Brainard Price Leonard Blundon died peacefully, at the New York State Veteran's Home, in Oxford, NY, the morning of Oct. 30, 2016 just after his 88th birthday. He was born on October 21, 1928. He was the son of the Rev. Arthur E. B. Blundon and Sadie LeValliant Blundon. He was born in Syracuse, N.Y. His father was a Methodist minister and they moved frequently. He lived in Lee Center, Central Square, Copenhagen, Dexter and Harrisville. Brainard was always the "life of the party" and fun to be around. He graduated from Dexter High School in 1946 and graduated from the Watertown School of Commerce. He was the paymaster for the St. Regis Paper Co., Harrisville until it closed. He entered the U.S. Army Signal Corp from 1950-52. For months he had a squad who tested radiation after the nuclear tests in Nevada. He came home to marry Pearl Wood in 1952 and then he was stationed in California. On his discharge he went to work for Bristol-Myers in Chittenango, N.Y. in their office. Then he decided to come back to Harrisville and become partners with Lyle Burgess in his insurance business. Over the years Brainard bought out the business and had it for over 50 years. Brainard always loved people – especially people in this area. He had a "good word" about everyone. He was a member of the Harrisville Volunteer Fire Dept.. over 50 years and chief many years. He enjoyed representing the Fire Dept. in many events, especially parades. He was on the ambulance crew and also taught First Aid CPR certification many years. He was also on the board of the Lowville Hospital. He was an active member of the Masons for over 50 years. Brainard had been very active in the Harrisville United Methodist Church. He was a member since 1946, a trustee, choir member and lay speaker. His joy was spending time with his family at their Lake Bonaparte cottage. They enjoyed water skiing, boating and scuba diving. His horses were also his favorite pets. He was preceded in death by his 2 adopted sons (1) John George Blundon and (2) Riki Allen Blundon, his wife Pearl, his parents, the Rev. and Mrs. A.E.B. Blundon, and his brother, the Rev. Jason Blundon. Brainard is survived by his 8 grandchildren, nephews and nieces and sister, Eileen Burge. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to the Harrisville United Methodist Church. Services will be held at the Harrisville United Methodist Church, on Sat. Nov. 5, beginning with a 9:00 viewing, followed at 10:00 with a memorial service, burial will follow in the Harrisville Cemetery with Military Honors. A luncheon will be held after the service. Arrangements are being handled by the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc., located at 500 State Street in Carthage, NY 13619.
