I grew up with Fred and his brothers and sister. I lived on The Orvis place and we all went to the One Room School House on the corner.The Phelps and the Freemans made up the majority of the school. I think other than the Phelps and Freemans there was David Dunn and me. I remember Fred as a young kid and never knew him as a grown man but sounds like he did well for himself. I live in Nevada and gone from New york over 60 years. Just thought I would make a comment about and old acquaintance

So sorry to hear that Fred has passed. Fred was a good, caring and very kind man. He loved his family and they were so important to him. He will be missed. He always had a smile and a kind word. When we moved to Felts Mills, he was about one of the first people to our door to welcome us and recruit us for the Carthage-Great Bend Grange. We are sorry that we could not attend the viewing or the service due to appointments that could not be changed. Fred left all of us with so many memories to share and cherish. Share those memories always and the father, grandfather, partner, brother and friend will be close to our hearts always.

Our prayers and heartfelt wishes are with Mr. Phelps' Family. We didn't know him, but from reading his obituary he is obviously a decent, wonderful family man. He seems to be the "salt of the earth" man who is grounded in love of family, community, country and God. ..."those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. I always thought highly of Fred. Knew him well back in the days when we were in the Felts Mills Fire Dept. I remember when my ex worked for him to prep for the county fair. I am so sorry to hear the passing of Fred, was so glad he attended the Bluegrass Picni in September. When I was Director at Stone Mills he always helped me with what ever he could, he loved everything regarding agriculture. Will always have fond memories of him. Rest in peace Fred.
