Obituary of Aloysius H.R. Eisel
COPENHAGEN – Aloysius “Al” H. R. Eisel, 84, of Watson Rd., died Thursday night, January 18, 2018 at his home.
He was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 29, 1933, a son of the late Henry and Antoinette (Zimmerman) Eisel. He graduated from Copenhagen Central School in 1951. On October 30, 1954 he married Marion Drews at the St. Mary’s Church in Copenhagen. Al served in the United States Marine Corps as an Air Traffic Controller from September 1951 to September 1954, amidst the Korean War. During this time he was stationed in Japan and Cherry Point, North Carolina. After his service, he worked as a Millwright for St. Regis Mill in Deferiet, retiring in 1993. Upon retirement, he worked for Maintenance and the Department of Engineering and Housing on Fort Drum.
Aloysius was a life member and past officer of the Marine Corps League DET #754, Lowville. He was Copenhagen’s first Cub Scout Master, leading Troop 60. He had his Pilot’s License and flew airplanes for many years. He was a member of the LeRay Remote Control Club, as he enjoyed building model airplanes as well as model boats. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening, yearly fishing trips to Canada and making maple syrup together with his brothers and friends. Al was especially great at carpentry work. He built the beautiful home that he and his wife Marion have spent many years together in. Al was a happy, outgoing family-oriented man who was often found laughing and telling stories.
He is survived by his wife, Marion; three children, Michael five step-grandchildren; (Terie) Eisel of Copenhagen; Susan (Perry) Eisel-Brown of Rochester; Alicia (Ish) Eisel-Morales of Boonville; 10 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; six siblings, Ann (Herb) Stephenson of West Leyden; John (Gail) Eisel of Copenhagen; Stephen Eisel of Copenhagen; Vera (Thomas) Young of Antwerp; Rudy (Betty) Eisel of Tylerville; Roland (Lou) Eisel of Guam; a brother-in-law, John (Sarah) Drews of Copenhagen; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a large extended family.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 22, 2018 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 9790 NY-12, Copenhagen, NY 13626. A Catholic Mass will be said at the Church on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 10 AM. Burial with Military Honors will be held on May 12, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
