Obituary of Theodore J. Colton
CARTHAGE -- Theodore “Ted” Joseph Colton, 85, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the Carthage Area Hospital.
Ted grew up in Conneaut, Ohio, where he graduated from Conneaut High School. He graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1954, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy. At Ohio Northern, Ted was a member of the Kappa Psi fraternity and lettered in track and played on the tennis team.
Ted moved his family to Carthage, New York in 1966 from Fairview Park, Ohio. He purchased a controlling interest in Fox Drug Co, Inc. where he remained until his retirement.
Ted was a Life Member of Carlowden Country Club, Denmark, where he scored two “hole in ones.” He was also a Life Member of the Carthage Elks Lodge, BPOE #1762 and a member of the Black River Valley Club, Watertown. He was a master’s bridge player and was never known to have lost a chess game. Ted was also a member of the Twin Falls Hunting and Fishing Club, which he enjoyed year-round.
He is survived by his wife Nancy and his son Philip T. Colton and his wife Michelle McQuarrie Colton of Minneapolis, Minnesota, his daughter Anne Lynn Colton Rickard and her husband John (Buzzy) David Rickard of Lake Placid, New York and his daughter Catherine Grace Colton Dunlap and her husband Victor W. Dunlap II of Orlando, Florida and four grandchildren – Annalise, Jackson, Georgianna and Eleanor.
He was predeceased by his father, Theodore and his mother Eleanor. Ted died peacefully surrounded by his loving family.
Arrangements are being handled by the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 500 State St., Carthage. Due to renovations at St. James Church in Carthage, a Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 10:30am St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Copenhagen, with the Rev. Donald Robinson, Pastor, officiating. A memorial gathering will be held immediately following at the Cottage Inn, Copenhagen. There will be no public calling hours.
