CARTHAGE – Stephen K. Meyer, 656 West End Ave., died Tuesday evening, January 27, 2015 at home under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County. Born in West Carthage on January 22, 1954, the son of Harold & Grace Chisamore Meyer, he graduated from Carthage Central High School with the Class of 1973. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1974 until his retirement from Ft. Knox, Kentucky in 1994. He was a tank commander and tank instructor during his term of service. After his retirement, he held various jobs in Kentucky, including a gas station attendant, an auto parts salesman, groundskeeper for the Kentucky State Parks system and a laborer for Reed Resources. A marriage to Constance Fuller in 1973 ended in divorce. He married Mina Bewerman on July 18, 1993. Mina died on August 15, 2008. He was an avid bird watcher who enjoyed taking leisurely drives and spending time with his family. He enjoyed snacking on cheese curd and Croghan bologna. He is survived by a son, Brian Meyer, a daughter, Heather Meyer, his grandchildren; Shauwna, Brandon and Jayvon and one great grandson, Dominick, all of Auburn, NY, as well as four step children, 15 step grandchildren and 8 step great-grandchildren. Also surviving are six sisters; Katherine Hedlund, Clifton Park, Jo Downey, Selkirk, Helen Williams, Carthage, Mary Meyer, Carthage, Nancy Bush, Lewes, Delaware and Frances Meyer, Latham, two brothers; Michael Meyer, Croghan and Charles Meyer, Carthage as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Stephen is predeceased by his wife, Mina Laffina Meyer, his parents and one step grandson. Funeral arrangements with full military honors will be held on Wednesday, February 4th at 3:00 PM at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the funeral on Wednesday, from 1;00 – 3:00. Burial will be in Kentucky, at the convenience of the family.
